Women in Film and Television Ireland provides a
professional forum for the advancement and celebration of women
working in the film, television and radio industries. WFTV
Ireland has currently in excess of 100 members, all
professionals within the stated industries, and is part of an
expanding international organization with over 10,000 affiliated
members in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Africa and
Europe.
The first chapter was initiated in Los Angeles in 1973 by the
publisher of The Hollywood Reporter, Tichi Wilkerson-Kassel,
and now boasts over 2000 members including such well-known names as
Meg Ryan, Michelle Pfeiffer, Roseanne Barr and Sherry Lansing.
Primary Aims
- Assisting and educating women who wish to become involved in
the Film, Television and Radio industries.
- Providing a network of support for those already involved.
- Providing numerous innovative educational programs and special
events each year.
An
international summit now takes place every year. The London chapter
hosted last year's summit at Canada House, Trafalgar Square and had
an attendance of over 150 delegates from 30 separate chapters
worldwide. Highlights of the summit included:
- Opening Gala Reception at the Houses of Parliament hosted by
Janet Anderson, Government Minister for Film, Tourism and
Broadcasting.
- Workshops and Seminars with speakers from the BBC, Channel 4
and leading independent Film and Television companies. The Irish
chapter (WFTV Ireland) hosted a seminar on 'National Identity' at
the Royal Court Theatre with a panel of speakers from the Irish
Film and Television Industry which was followed by a reception at
the Irish Embasy.
